Birth Support

Birth support on a general level is the support service(s) that are provided to the birthing person during their labor. These services are non-medical and are often focused on emotional support. Research has proven that the presence of a support person for the laboring individual is highly beneficial as the support ensures care and focus on the birthing person throughout their laboring process while the medical staff focuses on the medical practice of labor and delivery.

For Hands of Melody, birth support means providing the non-medical services and support as holistic and wraparound care. We offer wraparound care because our focus is on the complete well-being of the birthing person, partner, and baby. Our services are holistic because we address emotional, mental, and physical support from the moment contractions begin until the baby arrives. We maintain open communication when you suspect contractions have begun and will travel to your home to provide at-home labor care until it is time to go to the hospital. We work with you, your family, and your doctor(s) to plan the birthing experience you want and prepare for the birthing experience you need.

At the hospital, we doulas will remain with you in the room to give encouraging words, rub backs and hands, wipe foreheads, hold conversations, or remain silent. We will discuss with you and your support any questions or concerns that you may have throughout the laboring and birthing process, no matter how long the process takes. We will explain medical terminology and recommendations, and ensure you are comfortable and understand the implications of any decisions you consider and make.

With HOM, our primary focus and goal is to be what you need and offer you the care, voice, and space to be who you are preparing to be.
